He also developed the innovative brainstorming game Greenicity - a tool to design greener cities.
Prior to his role in China, Maycon worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Sustainable Urbanism at TU Braunschweig in Germany from 2016 to 2019. His research focused on urban-rural spaces, urban mobility, and sustainable development. During this period, he organized the international conference ISU Talks Future Cities; contributed to the interdisciplinary project of TOPOI - a method for analysing settlement units; contributed to the project Data 4 Urban Mobility; and supported Berlin's high-rises analysis as part of the ISU + COBE Berlin team.

Maycon co-edited the book "Contemporary Architecture and Automation" (2018) with Prof. Gabriela Celani, which presents an overview of advances in digital fabrication in Brazil. He co-edited the two volumes "Resilience vs Pandemics: Innovations in Cities and Neighbourhoods", and "Resilience vs Pandemics: Innovations in Public Spaces and Buildings" (2023 and 2024), and "Rethinking Stormwater Management through Sustainable Urban Design" (2024) with Prof. Ali Cheshmehzangi, showcasing his commitment to advancing knowledge in the field of sustainable urbanism. In 2025, Maycon co-edited and co-authored the book "AI-Aided Design for Sustainability" with Dr. Gregory Pitts, presenting critical challenges and innovations of AI in design. His research contributions extend to top journals in the field, including publications in Environment and Planning B, Sustainability, Frontiers in Environmental Science, Heliyon, Nexus Network, and Nature's Scientific Reports.

Maycon's multidisciplinary approach is evident in his diverse works, ranging from analytical maps and participatory approaches to parametric designs. His engagement with art and illustration has led to publications in Brazil and Germany, with artworks exhibited in Brazil, China, and most recently in Australia. This artistic exploration informs his architectural design studios, creating a unique blend of research and creativity.
