RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research interests lie in cryptography and cyber security, with a broad focus on the design and analysis of cryptosystems. This includes symmetric-key cryptanalysis, lightweight cryptography, differential and boomerang cryptanalysis, cryptographic protocol design, and the use of machine learning and deep learning to better understand and evaluate cryptographic security. I have published over 60 peer-reviewed papers in this area, with 40 of them in Q1 venues and 8 in Q2 venues. This work has appeared in leading cryptography and cyber security venues such as IEEE Transactions on Computers, IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing, SAC, ACNS, and ACISP.

 

A major current focus of my research is post-quantum cryptography and post-quantum transition. My recent projects aim to support the safe migration of critical Internet infrastructure, including the Domain Name System, towards quantum-resilient cryptographic solutions. This work is supported by an auDA-funded project of approximately AUD $1 million, where I am a Chief Investigator leading the cryptographic component, and a DFAT-funded project of approximately AUD $179,000, which I lead.

 

I am also developing a research stream on security in an AI-enabled world, particularly AI-enabled phishing, phishing simulation, and security awareness training. This work examines how generative AI may change the phishing threat landscape and how organisations can better model human behaviour and defend against increasingly convincing social engineering attacks. This research is supported through Deakin Cyber’s Collaborative Grant Scheme and the School of IT Major Grant Scheme, and involves collaboration with AI researchers, the Deakin Applied Artificial Intelligence Initiative, and PhD candidates.

 

Across these areas, my research aims to contribute to secure digital infrastructure, post-quantum readiness, and responsible technology adoption.
