RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research is organised around three interconnected themes that collectively aim to understand and improve mental health and wellbeing through a focus on social experience and emotional processes. Central to my work is the idea that loneliness, emotion regulation, and LGBTQIA+ health are deeply interrelated.

First, I investigate the role of loneliness and social isolation, particularly among vulnerable groups. I examine how limited social connection contributes to poor mental health outcomes and how these effects are shaped by broader social determinants of health. This work directly informs my second area, where I explore how emotion regulation strategies differ between clinical and non-clinical populations. I am particularly interested in how experiences such as loneliness and social anxiety influence the ways individuals understand and manage their emotions.

My third area focuses on improving the health and wellbeing of LGBTQIA+ Australians. In this work, I examine how social exclusion, minority stress, and barriers to connection contribute to disparities in mental health, and how affirming interventions can enhance wellbeing. Across all three themes, I integrate key knowledge areas, including loneliness, social anxiety, LGBTQIA+ health, emotion regulation, social determinants of health, and social connection, to generate insights that translate into meaningful, real-world impact.
