MrGary Skinner

I'm a PhD Candidate working within the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences in which my area of study is looking at Physical Activity and the Mental Health of University Students. As well as gaining a deeper understanding of how physical activity can improve mental health symptoms through research, my project aims to improve the mental health of university students through tailored, peer-led exercise delivered via the 'UPLIFT' intervention. 

I began my association with Deakin in 2023 when I worked as a Research Assistant, contributing on projects ranging from the remote management of physical health among older adults, to looking at the impact of working from home on people living with Type-2 Diabetes. I then began my PhD in early 2024, where I have since picked up additional employment as an associate teaching fellow on units including Physical Activity and Exercise for Health (HSE111) and Exercise Prescription and Delivery (HSE103).
