BIO
As a Senior Lecturer in Health in the School of Health and Social Development, one of my main leadership roles is Course Director for Bachelor of Health Sciences degrees and Unit Chair of HBS107 (Understanding Health), which is a large inter-disciplinary core unit for several courses. I bring professional perspectives as an Accredited Practising Dietitian, together with my background working in teaching and research, public health, health promotion, clinical and corporate nutrition, and government.
As a teacher my specialisation is the first-year transition, to support student success during early academic years, whilst aiming to build inclusivity, engagement and universal design as foundations in unit development. For further details about my teaching see 'Supervision and Teaching'.
I am also an Early Career Researcher and have established research partnerships with diverse organisations including working in allyship with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, and other collaborations including VicHealth, Cancer Council Victoria (PhD and postdoctoral), Sanitarium Health and Wellbeing (Honours and PhD), University College Dublin in Ireland (postdoctoral studies) For further details about my research see 'My Research'.
Outside my role at Deakin University, I'm committed to public health nutrition advocacy, through my work as Co-Convenor of Dietitians Australia Leadership Team in the Public Health Community Nutrition Interest Group. Also, as an invited member of the Australian Academy of Science National Committee for Nutrition (Research and Education Working Party) I have contributed to working with a national team towards strengthening evidence-based nutrition policy, through progressing 'Nourishing Australia: A decadal plan for the science of nutrition.'
