TEACHING EXPERTISE

As an associate of several universities and research institutions, I have been a co-supervisor and adviser, formally and informally, for 10 graduate and post-graduate students. I have also delivered occasional invited lectures about fisheries to students at Deakin University, Ocean University of China, and Vilnius University. Whilst in full-time employment as a scientist, I trained as a secondary school teacher in the 1980s, then became a workplace trainer and assessor, focussing on competency-based vocational short courses related to safely undertaking field research. As a SCUBA instructor for 35 years, in the 1990s I developed and delivered research diver training courses for staff involved in the projects I supervised. I also delivered diving supervision, emergency rescue and first aid training to scientific divers for more than two decades.
