BIO

Dr Ebhohon Endurance Odion is a Research Fellow in Environmental Engineering at Deakin University, with research expertise spanning environmental engineering, soil and water management, pollution remediation, waste valorisation, biochar technology, and sustainable resource recovery.

His research focuses on developing practical and sustainable solutions to environmental challenges through the beneficial reuse of waste-derived materials, engineered soil amendments, and nature-based remediation approaches. His work examines interactions between soils, plants, contaminants, nutrients, water, and organic amendments, with particular interest in improving soil quality, nutrient management, water retention, plant productivity, and environmental remediation.

A major area of his current research involves the development and evaluation of engineered biochar and biosolids-derived products for agricultural, horticultural, turf, and environmental applications. This includes laboratory, greenhouse and field-scale investigations of biochar–soil–plant interactions, nutrient dynamics, soil carbon, soil moisture, plant growth, and the longer-term environmental performance of amended soils.

Dr Odion also has research experience in contaminated land remediation, particularly the rhizodegradation and bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated soils. His work has investigated how soil properties and soil texture influence plant-assisted remediation and the degradation of mid- to long-chain petroleum hydrocarbons.

His broader research interests align with circular economy principles and the transformation of waste streams into useful resources. He is particularly interested in research that connects environmental engineering with sustainable agriculture, resource recovery, climate resilience, pollution management, and industry implementation.

Dr Odion works collaboratively with academic researchers, industry partners and other stakeholders to translate scientific research into practical environmental solutions. His research contributes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those relating to clean water and sanitation, responsible consumption and production, climate action, sustainable land management, and innovation.
