TEACHING EXPERTISE
I have over a decade of experience teaching geospatial science and ornithology to audiences ranging from postgraduate students to the general public.
I held a fixed term faculty appointment as a Visiting Assistant Extension Educator at the University of Connecticut’s Center for Land Use Education and Research, where I designed and delivered workshops, technical manuals and StoryMaps on geospatial technologies for government agencies, land trusts, researchers and educators. This included creating and running eBird workshops that introduced participants to citizen science as a tool for monitoring and conservation. At Lincoln University I tutored Advanced Geographic Information Systems, a 600 level postgraduate course, supporting students through ArcGIS Pro labs focused on environmental applications.
I have also taught geospatial technologies to high school students and teachers from under-resourced communities through an NSF funded summer program at the University at Buffalo, co-ordinated NSF funded conservation field workshops in Connecticut pairing teenagers with adult volunteers, and regularly taught Birdwatching 101 and eBird 101 to the public at the Rochester Brainery.
I welcome enquiries from prospective PhD and Masters by Research students interested in avian movement ecology, wildlife disease, species distribution modelling, geospatial ecology or citizen science, and I am available to supervise and co-supervise higher degree research candidates.
