BIO

Dr Anne Turner leads physiology education, stress physiology research and person-centred service initiatives. As a balanced academic, Anne is committed to leadership excellence in teaching, research and service. She leads teaching and learning (T&L) programs in physiology education and research methods with a focus on sustainable T&L practices and assessment. Anne leads research in stress physiology with a focus on the impact of psychological stress on human health and the use of health behaviours (especially physical activity and nutrition) to mitigate the impact of stress on health. Her service leadership is centred around supporting academic careers equitably and mentoring the growth and development of the next generation of academic and researcher leaders. 

 

Anne's leadership in T&L is recognised internationally by the award of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Anne is active in higher education research having led publications in optimising assessment workload and exploring student perspectives, knowledge and confidence in academic integrity. She has contributed leadership as an Honours Co-supervisor for a student investigating the use of Virtual Reality in Cardiac Physiology Education. 

 

Anne is an internationally recognised researcher in stress physiology, with over 60 peer-reviewed papers in international journals and book chapters, more than 3900 citations and an h-index of 32 (Google Scholar). She has over 80 conference papers. As lead author, Anne has generated a Web of Science Highly Cited Paper – ranking in the top 1% globally – with over 400 citations, and a Field Weighted Citation Impact of 6.15. This paper has informed a Clinical Practice Guideline in Mexico's National Health System and a Policy Document for Switzerland’s Federal Office of Public Health.

 

Leadership in service is a sustained and deliberate aspect of Anne’s academic practice. In the Faculty of Health, Anne Chairs the Program to support Academic Careers Equitably (pACE); at University level, she Mentors colleagues in university-wide Mentoring Programs; and at discipline level, she contributes as Lead Membership Reviewer for the International Society of Psychoneuroendocrinology.
