TEACHING EXPERTISE

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

I have a strong interest in understanding how to improve the teaching and learning environments for our students and work across the University and with external collaborators on a number of projects including the development of clinical diagnostic reasoning skills, improving their ability to offer culturally safe care. I have worked with outstanding collaborators who have enabled me to develop novel tools to teach clinical diagnostic reasoning skills, including virtual environments and the use of eye tracking to better understand the cognitive processes that underpin decision making in students. I also seek to understand the motivation driving clinical teachers to engage in teaching activities, and have supervised a PhD student who identified the barriers and enablers to clinical optometrists engaging in supervision of clinical placements and the barriers enablers that students experience when on placements. My teaching activities have been recognised by two Vice Chancellor’s awards for excellence in teaching and Learning (2019, 2021) and citation for Excellence in Leadership in Teaching (Australian Awards for University Teaching 2024)
