OVERVIEW of KEY ACHIEVEMENTS

Project Lead on the development of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Midwife standards for practice.

Received a total of over $5M external research funding as chief investigator/mentor, over 140 peer-reviewed publications,1,392 publication citations, h-index 20 (Google Scholar) and ResearchGate RIS  783.1

Research leadership and capability building at Townsville Hospital and Health Service, Western Health, Ballarat Health Service and with James Cook University & Deakin University, evidenced by growth in Higher Degree Research (HDR) numbers, increase in clinician led research, funding success, and the development of research professional development activities for clinicians.

Demonstrated a commitment to innovative translational research with impactful outcomes that include the development and evaluation of: 

§  a trial of an immersive sensory environment to improve maternal birth outcomes

§  an intervention study of an immersive a trial using Virtual Reality in a renal dialysis setting to improve attendance rates

§  a decision aid that was disseminated by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RANZCOG) and is now freely available https://yourchoice.mcri.edu.au/dashboard

§  An intervention study testing the impact of robotics on health literacy

§  An animated video to explain the physiology of lactation

§  A resource to assist skill development in the assessment of the progress of labour using haptics and virtual reality.

§  the Virtual Maternity Clinic, a resource now integrated into midwifery programs

§  the ANEW training program, funded by the Department of Health, Victoria, for seven years as a state-wide training program for maternity care clinicians.

Cate Nagle is an Associate Professor within the School of Nursing and
Midwifery at Deakin University. She is a member of the Quality and Patient
Safety Strategic Research Centre and associate member of the Centre for Social
and Early Emotional Development. A registered midwife and nurse, Cate is
committed to improving the safety and quality of maternity care through
research and teaching. She also has a research position at Western Health
where she is focused on building research capacity within the organisation.
