RESEARCH INTERESTS
Kelly Miller is an environmental social scientist and ‘human dimensions of wildlife management’ specialist. Her work bridges the gap between science and policy by exploring the social context for the application of science. Major work has included studies on wildlife and environmental value orientations, community attitudes toward threatened species conservation, urban wildlife management, birdwatching, and bird feeding. Her research extends to fields in education, including education for sustainability, and environmental education.
Kelly has collaborated with various industry partners including: DEECA, Zoos Victoria, Parks Victoria, Birdlife Australia, River Basin Management Society, CSIRO, and numerous CMAs, local councils and community groups. Her research output includes over 65 peer-reviewed publications and over $1.3 million of external income (competitive grants/other public sector funding and industry funding). She has held positions such as Honours Coordinator (2007-2010), Deputy Chair and Member of Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment Human Ethics Advisory Group and Deakin University Human Research Ethics Committee (various appointments since 2002), and the Director of the Environmental Sustainability Faculty Research Cluster (2010-2011). She has supervised over 40 Honours and Higher Degree by Research students.
