MrsAlissa Maillet

Alissa Maillet plays a central role in optometric education within the School of Medicine, serving as the primary educator for contact lenses and anterior eye disease in the Bachelor of Vision Science and Masters of Optometry courses. She is also a key leader in developing and assessing the optometric clinical skills curriculum. Alissa provides clinical instruction of students in on-campus practical sessions and supervision of clinical consultations in the Deakin Collaborative Eye Care Clinic (DCECC) and at external placement sites.

Alissa holds a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from the University of Waterloo, a Bachelor of Optometry from the University of Melbourne, a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning and is currently undertaking PhD studies relating to patient-reported outcomes in dry eye disease management. Alissa has been granted Fellowships by the Higher Education Academy and the British Contact Lens Association. 

Additional to her academic role, Alissa is an experienced clinical optometrist with particular interest in diagnosis and treatment of anterior eye disease, myopia management including orthokeratology, and specialty contact lens fitting. She maintains ongoing clinical practice as a Clinical Leader at DCECC and at an independent optometry practice in Geelong.
