RESEARCH INTERESTS
Design and Analysis of Composite Structures
Development of analytical, numerical and multiscale modelling approaches for composite materials and structures. Research includes constitutive modelling, progressive damage analysis, structural integrity assessment, and the integration of experimental observations with predictive numerical models.
Continuous Fibre Additive Manufacturing
Development of manufacturing processes, feedstock technologies and design methodologies for continuous fibre reinforced 3D printed composites. A particular focus is the development of novel continuous fibre feedstocks that unlock new material combinations and manufacturing capabilities beyond those available through conventional commercial systems. Research also includes process optimisation, structure-property relationships, and multifunctional composite structures.
Composite Damage, Fatigue and Fracture
Investigation of damage initiation and growth mechanisms in composite materials, including fatigue, delamination, fracture toughness, hybrid effects, and damage tolerance. Emphasis is placed on linking microscale damage processes to structural performance through a combination of experimental and numerical approaches.
Advanced Experimental Characterisation
Mechanical characterisation of composite materials and structures across multiple length scales, including in-plane and interlaminar properties, fracture mechanics, fatigue behaviour, and advanced imaging techniques. Research includes the use of synchrotron-based characterisation methods to investigate damage mechanisms and provide validation data for analytical and numerical models.
