BIO

I am a Senior Lecturer in Education, Pedagogy, and Curriculum, dedicated to bridging the gap between critical theory and transformative practice in Education. My teaching and research interrogate Higher Education epistemology, challenging colonial, extractive, and militaristic narratives and practices. By drawing on posthumanist and decolonial theory, critical place inquiry, literary studies, and fiction, I explore creative forms of resistance and ethical responses to these narratives and practices and to pressing global issues like ecological crisis and systemic educational and political disengagement.

I was Deputy Chair and Chair of the Human Ethics Advisory Group for the Faculty of Arts and Education from 2022-2025, and have been a member of the Deakin University Human Research Ethics Committee since 2020. I'm originally from the Kapiti Coast of Aotearoa, New Zealand. In Aotearoa, I worked in the not-for-profit sector including for the New Zealand Women’s Refuge; as a secondary school teacher of English and Health; and as an academic at Auckland Univerity of Technology in Foundation and Undergraduate programs in the Faculty of Health and Interdisciplinary Studies. In Australia I have researched and taught in Undergraduate and Postgraduate Teacher Education, and Higher Education Teaching since 2015. This background means I work from a strong base of interdisciplinary experience and understandings, and critical and ethical lenses.

I co-edited the book ‘Postqualitative Research and Innovative Methodologies’ and have published and reviewed in leading international journals including Educational Philosophy and Theory; Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education; Teaching in Higher Education; Futures; the British Journal of Educational Technology; and the Australian Journal of Environmental Education.
