TEACHING EXPERTISE
My experience in Higher Education teaching spans all levels: In roles in Foundation, Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Graduate Researcher programs. It also spans the disciplines of Health and Education.
I aim for critique, realism, empathy and support in my teaching. I am concerned about the significant contemporary pressures and challenges of education roles today, and with supporting current and future educators to navigate these in healthy ways. I am also concerned with supporting educators' critical understanding of these pressures and roles, towards becoming ethical and compassionate professionals capable of challenging education systems and practices and working towards change.
My teaching is supported by my research and scholarship in Initial Teacher Education and Higher Education assessment, curriculum, policy, discourse and practice, and in methodological theory and methodological innovation. I currently teach units in the Graduate Certificate in Higher Education teaching, in units about Higher Education Assessment and about the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning . At Deakin, I have also taught in postgraduate Initial Teacher Education programs, including as Unit Chair of the Master of Teaching Primary and Secondary capstone placement units from 2017 to 2021, and as Unit Chair of Theory and Methodology in Education Research for several years.
My leadership in Higher Education teaching is recognised in an AdvanceHE Senior Fellowship Award.
