BIO
Katie Dow is an Associate Lecturer in Education (Health and Physical Education) in the School of Education at Deakin University.
Katie is passionate about preparing future teachers through engaging, evidence-informed and authentic learning experiences. Her teaching is underpinned by a commitment to creating supportive learning environments where students feel valued, challenged and empowered to think critically, reflect on their practice and develop the confidence to become capable and reflective educators.
Katie began her teaching career in 2001 in regional Victoria and has taught across primary and secondary schools in Australia and internationally in London. Her extensive experience as a Health and Physical Education teacher continues to inform her work in Initial Teacher Education, ensuring her teaching remains connected to contemporary school practice and helping preservice teachers bridge the gap between educational theory and the realities of the classroom.
Katie's teaching and leadership interests include Health and Physical Education, teacher education, curriculum design, authentic assessment, professional experience, student wellbeing and the preparation of classroom-ready graduates. She is committed to continuous improvement through scholarship, collaboration and engagement with schools and the broader education profession.
