BIO

Lecturer at Deakin University with over 15 years of research experience working in National and International government organisations and with Industry partners in the fields of marine microbiology, microbial and molecular ecology, and host microbiomes. Driven by a passion for marine science, a major focus of Dr Oxley’s current research program as the Leader of the Microbiome Ecology Laboratory, is to advance our knowledge of host and environmental microbiomes in a rapidly changing world, its consequences for animal and ecosystem health, and how we can exploit the microbiome to better inform and manage change using cutting-edge ‘omics’ approaches. This information will benefit government, industry and other regulatory bodies and managers by creating new microbiome-smart approaches to detection, monitoring, and remediation. Dr Oxley is passionate about enabling student learning through supervision of HDR and honours students, with the view to ensuring they have the critical research skills needed for life in professional practice. Dr Oxley is also the School of Life and Environmental Sciences Honours Campus Coordinator (Waurn Ponds) and is a reviewer for the Human Ethics Advisory Group (HEAG).
