RESEARCH INTERESTS
RESEARCH INTERESTS
Leading and contributing to a variety of collaborative research projects which seek to elucidate the involvement of the microbiome in host and ecosystem processes, and in developing new monitoring tools and management strategies for industry.
Current projects led by Dr Oxley:
• Establishing a basis for the gut microbiome in teleost fish diversification and adaptation.
• Investigating the relevance of the microbiome in the degradation of plastics and other materials.
Collaborative projects:
• Identifying the contribution and role of the Australian Sheep Blowfly microbiome in flystrike and its control.
• Effects of pre-hatch environmental cycles on poultry microbiomes.
• Investigating the microbiome and genetic diversity of the critically endangered Burrunan dolphin (Tursiops australis).
• Establishing the involvement of the microbiome in driving host response to transmissible cancer in Tasmanian Devils.
• Thermal stress and its impacts on the gut and skin microbiome of teleost fish.
