BIO
Scott Field is an Education Focussed Academic within the Sport Management team at Deakin University, where he provides leadership to undergraduate and post-graduate students in higher educational engagement, employability and stakeholder relationships. His role focuses on student engagement and enhancing the academic experience around the key pillars of career planning, skill development and connection to the sport industry.
Scott leads Deakin programs in Sport Event and Facility Management, the Australian Sport System, and Work Integrated Learning programs specific to the sport industry. His work relies heavily on liaising with sport businesses and organisations, developing positive relationships, and preparing students for careers in sport. Beyond the classroom Scott’s reach includes leading Deakin teams in international student competitions, developing platforms for remote-based or isolated students to enrich their Deakin experiences, and establishing strong alumni networks for both career development and a more industry-focussed approach to program delivery.
As an educator and presenter Scott has been internationally recognised in industry, delivering keynote addresses in Australia, the USA and South Africa. His background in business development, management and training guides his approach to higher education.
Scott’s leadership in teaching has been recognised through the Deakin University Vice-Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence (2022) and his appointment as a Student Mentor for holders of the Deakin University Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship Award (2024).
Prior to returning to Deakin University Scott spent 20 years founding and growing Australia’s second largest aquatic education business, overseeing a staff team of 950 and delivering swimming lessons to 28,000 Australian children each week. He also led organisations in business, education, coaching and management, primarily within the Australian sport sector.
