BIO
Dr Kerui Zhai is a Lecturer in Accounting at Deakin Business School. His research examines how managerial characteristics, information environments, and institutional arrangements shape organisational decision-making and economic outcomes. Drawing on evidence from the United States, China, and international settings, his work spans corporate governance, financial reporting, taxation, sustainability, supply-chain finance, and the organisational adoption of emerging technologies.
Dr Zhai’s research has been published in leading accounting and finance journals, including Journal of Corporate Finance, Accounting & Finance, International Review of Economics & Finance, Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, and Advances in Accounting. His work has received national and international recognition, including the 2025 Peter Brownell Manuscript Award for the best accounting paper published in Accounting & Finance and the Best Paper Award at the China Accounting and Finance Conference. His recent publications have also demonstrated strong citation performance relative to international field benchmarks.
Dr Zhai has secured competitive research funding through the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ) Research Grant Scheme and collaborates with researchers across Australia, Asia, and North America. He serves on the Editorial Review Board of Accounting Research Journal and regularly reviews for leading accounting, finance, and economics journals. As a member of the Deakin SME Research Centre, he contributes accounting and governance expertise to interdisciplinary research and grant development. He also coordinates Deakin’s Accounting Research Seminar Series.
Dr Zhai teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate accounting programs, with expertise in financial accounting, sustainability reporting, accounting ethics, and financial statement analysis. His teaching emphasises authentic assessment, practical application, and the development of students’ technical capability, critical thinking, and professional judgement.
Dr Zhai welcomes opportunities for research collaboration, HDR supervision, industry engagement, and partnerships with government, professional bodies, and businesses.
