RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research interests include formative assessment, particularly ways to include children in the assessment process, as well as transitions between phases of education. My PhD research focused on understanding children’s perspectives of their transition experiences.

In addition to my role at Deakin, I have contributed to several educational publications and book chapters, including:

  • "I don’t really like the thing what you do, I like it more because you get the stickers": The impact of rules and rewards on children’s transition experiences, International Journal of Early Childhood Education (Co-authored with Dr. Rachel Levy).
  • "If I play I won’t learn": Children’s perceptions and experiences of transition and school readiness from Maternelle to Year 1 (Co-authored with Professor Elizabeth Wood).
  • Classroom as a context for academic and cultural learning: Children’s agency and participation in the material culture of the classroom (Co-authored with Charlotte Wilders, Elizabeth Wood, Liz Chesworth, and Christina Tatham).
