DrAlessandro Zambelli

Alessandro (Alex) Zambelli is an Honorary Associate Professor at Deakin University and a UK-qualified architect. He previously served as Senior Lecturer at the Melbourne School of Design, University of Melbourne, and as Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Portsmouth, where he was School Research Co-Lead; he remains a Visiting Associate Professor at Portsmouth. His work sits at the intersection of architectural practice, humanities, and creative research. Alongside more than three decades of architectural practice in London, including as co-founding director of Bates Zambelli Architects, his recent creative and collaborative work includes Beating the Bounds of Melbourne Town Common, presented at Melbourne Design Week 2025. He co-leads In-Commons, a collaborative framework between ABP, University of Melbourne and the Bartlett (UCL) exploring writing, fieldwork, and creative practice around contemporary commons, and is a Managing Editor of Architecture and Culture journal(Taylor & Francis).
