BIO
Dr Claire Hayes is a Senior Lecturer in Nursing and Midwifery at Deakin University, with a strong clinical and academic background in mental health. She holds a PhD in Psychiatry from the University of Melbourne, where her research focused on adolescent inpatient mental health care. Prior to this, she completed a Master of Science (Research) and a Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing, both at Waterford Institute of Technology.
Claire brings over 15 years clinical experience to her academic roles, having held senior nursing positions within Ramsay Healthcare and Waterford public Mental Health Services.
Her research focuses on youth mental health, inpatient care models, foster care experiences, and the psychological wellbeing of international students. She has led and collaborated on several funded research projects, publishing extensively in leading Q1 peer-reviewed journals.
Claire is a credentialed mental health nurse, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK), and serves as the Associate Editor of the Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing. Her work is driven by commitment and passion to improve outcomes for vulnerable populations through education, research, and clinical leadership.
