BIO
I am a fisheries' biologist with four decades of technical and scientific research experience in temperate marine ecosystems in south-eastern Australia and overseas. Stock status assessments in support of harvest strategies intended to promote sustainable exploitation of marine life have featured prominently in my work. My career commenced as a field technician in the late 1970s, working mostly on marine environmental projects centred around Port Phillip and Western Port Bays, and Gippsland Lakes. Fieldwork has been a major component of my research experience, including conducting underwater monitoring surveys and manipulative experiments on sedentary invertebrates inhabiting inshore reefs along the Bass Strait coast for several decades. I have also worked on several invertebrate mariculture projects, including harmful algal bloom biotoxin and coliform bacterial contamination monitoring, and provided advice to fisheries management plan developers and marine spatial planners.
