Suzona Asad is a PhD candidate in the Department of Accounting at Deakin Business School. She completed Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Accounting and Information Systems from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and Master of Commerce (MCOM) in Accounting from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. She has teaching experience at Eastern University, Bangladesh. Moreover, she worked as a casual marker at the University of Auckland. Her research interest includes financial accounting, corporate culture, and corporate governance. She has a publication in the "A" category journal (Finance Research Letters): 43 citations. Recently, she published a paper as a first author in the "A" category journal (International Review of Finance).

Dr Vincent Bicudo de Castro is an academic at Deakin Business School with a focus on business and interdisciplinary research. He is a Chartered Accountant with a Bachelor of Economics and degrees in Accounting at the bachelor, master (by research), and PhD levels. His research portfolio demonstrates remarkable versatility, spanning solo-authored works and collaborative studies that showcase his proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. His expertise in quantitative methods includes experience with surveys, textual analysis, and a wide array of data analytics tools.

Vincent has industry experience in auditing, having worked for two of the world's largest audit firms, where he provided assurance services to financial institutions. This professional background has shaped his teaching and coordination of postgraduate auditing courses and contributed to his publications on auditing themes.

In addition to his auditing career, Vincent has held a role in compliance and internal controls at a leading asset management firm, where he oversaw investments across hedge funds, private equity, equities, and real estate portfolios. Drawing on this industry experience, he has published articles on topics such as funds transfer pricing, the subjectivity of performance measurement, and broader issues related to performance management and organisational controls. Vincent integrates this practical expertise into his teaching, having taught and coordinated courses in banking and financial services as well as management accounting at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

As a versatile academic, Vincent applies critical thinking to a wide range of topics. A notable area of his research focuses on individuals and organisations that challenge state sovereignty, commonly referred to as micronations. This work has garnered public interest by questioning fundamental assumptions about governance and statehood, offering novel perspectives on concepts often taken for granted.

Vincent is passionate about blending industry knowledge with academic teaching, consistently achieving outstanding student evaluations. His dedication to education extends to research, where he has contributed to the scholarship of teaching and learning through several publications that exemplify the research-teaching nexus.

Beyond his research and teaching, Vincent has demonstrated leadership through various administrative roles, including serving on teaching and learning committees, acting as an academic progress committee co-chair, and reviewing faculty ethics. His professional contributions are further evidenced by his participation in industry award judging panels, reflecting his reach across both academic and professional circles.

Dr Belete Jember “BJ” Bobe is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at Deakin Business School, Australia, where he teaches and researches in management accounting and related fields. He has extensive international academic experience from universities in Australia, the United Kingdom, Ethiopia, and Egypt, and has taught accounting across undergraduate, postgraduate, honours, and doctoral programs.

Management accounting has been the focus of BJ’s teaching at Deakin University for more than 21 years. He has consistently achieved very high student satisfaction and has received multiple Letters of Excellence in Teaching in recognition of his sustained teaching performance. He has also held several academic leadership roles, including Director of two postgraduate programs. His current teaching focus is on integrating research, technology, and evidence-informed practice to prepare graduates for the evolving accounting profession.

BJ’s research centres on management accounting, particularly management control and performance management systems, in which he has published in highly ranked international journals. He also researches public accountability, sustainability accounting, accounting education, public sector accounting, and the professionalisation of accounting in developing countries. He is currently leading a research project that examines how activity-based funding information is interpreted and used by managers and clinicians in Australian hospitals to support planning, resource allocation, and organisational decision-making.

Outside academia, BJ has held professional roles in taxation, auditing, financial management, and financial control across Australia, Ethiopia, and the United Kingdom. He is a full member of CPA Australia, a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He actively contributes to the accountancy profession through leadership roles, including Chair of the ACCA Australia and New Zealand Members' Panel and Member of the ACCA International Assembly. He is also a candidate in the 2026 ACCA Council election.

Peter Carey is a Professor of Accounting and Head of the Department of Accounting in Deakin Business School. Peter's research and teaching interests are in the areas of audit and assurance services, corporate governance, financial reporting, with a focus on the SME and not-for-profit environment. He has published research in a number of leading academic journals including The Accounting Review, Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory; The Journal of Business Ethics, ABACUS; Journal of Accounting Auditing and Finance; The British Accounting Review; Accounting and Finance.

Peter has a PhD from the University of New South Wales, Graduate Diploma in Applied Science (Social Statistics) from Swinburne University, Master of Business Administration from Monash University and a Bachelor of Economics from Monash University. He is a Chartered Accountant and a Registered Company Auditor with work experience in both professional practice and industry.

Dr Samuel Cheung is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accounting in Deakin Business School. Samuel received his PhD in Accounting from Monash University in 2017 and joined the department in 2016. He teaches financial accounting and strategic business reporting units at the postgraduate level. His research interests cover various issues of empirical financial accounting, such as corporate governance, managers performance, board communication, debt contracting, with a focus on board networks.

Greg joined the Department of Accounting as a part-time Professorial Research Fellow in July 2022. His research focuses on financial reporting and capital markets. Greg's research has appeared in the leading accounting journals, including The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, The Review of Accounting Studies, and Contemporary Accounting Research. He is a recent editor of the The Accounting Review, and has served on the editorial boards of the leading accounting journals.

Christine is an Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting within the Faculty of Business and Finance. She has extensive experience in the tertiary sector, working at Deakin over the last 10 years and prior to that 7 years at Monash, sessional teaching at RMIT and over 15 years at TAFE. Christine teaches in the Accounting capstone unit and in auditing units. Christine researches in audit teams and education.

Christine is a strong proponent of active learning, authentic activities, and assessment. She has won three Vice Chancellor's awards and two AAUT teaching and learning awards.

She is a Chartered Accountant having worked in audit and accounting roles before joining academia. Over her time at Deakin, Christine has been the Associate Dean, Teaching and Learning in the Faculty of Business and Law (4 years) and the Director of Teaching in the Accounting Department (3 years).

Dr Thusitha Dissanayake, a senior lecturer in the Department of Accounting at Deakin Business School. He strives to excel in the field of research - sustainability reporting, public sector accounting, business strategy, and corporate governance - whilst upholding a strong commitment to providing a dynamic learning environment and developing a challenging lecturing career with a drive to find innovative teaching solutions in the field of endeavour.

Thusitha joined Deakin Business School in January 2018 as a lecturer in accounting. He completed his PhD in Accountancy from RMIT University and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in accounting from Deakin University, and a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) from Victoria University. Before joining Deakin, Thusitha had roles as a sessional lecturer at Monash University and RMIT University, as well as over 9 years of industry experience in the field of accounting, working in Australia and Sri Lanka.

He is a member of the CPA Australia, the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) Australia, the Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA), the Accounting & Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ), the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AAT), and the Deakin Integrated Reporting (IR) Research Centre.

Thusitha's research interests include corporate governance (Board and Sub-committee), sustainability reporting, business strategy and public sector accounting.  

Dr Egor Evdokimov is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accounting in Deakin Business School. Egor's areas of interest include managerial characteristics, social networks, CEO turnover and board dynamics.

Dr Dale Fu is a lecturer in Accounting Discipline at Deakin Business School. He obtained a PhD from UNSW Sydney in 2021. Dale's research and teaching interests span the areas of auditing and assurance, corporate governance, and financial accounting. Specifically, he is interested in how risk monitoring and control in audit procedures affect audit production and audit quality. His papers have been published in high quality journals including Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, Accounting and Finance, Australian Journal of Management, and Managerial Auditing Journal. Dale also actively contributes to scholarly debate and generates evidence that informs regulatory and professional conversations. His collaborations with auditing policymakers include formal submissions on proposed and revised auditing standards, as well as providing data support for AUASB research reports. One of his research reports was published by Auditing and Assurance Standards Board.

Dale’s teaching aims to develop students’ practical auditing and assurance capabilities for today’s evolving professional landscape. He focuses on the application of auditing standards, risk assessment techniques, and real-world audit scenarios, alongside the use of data analytics tools to reflect current audit practices. He led comprehensive redevelopments of teaching materials in the unit MAA303 Auditing and Assurance, replacing traditional content delivery with case-based learning, and was recognised through a Deakin University Award for Teaching and Learning in 2022. His courses employ innovative, evidence-based approaches to equip students to meet evolving regulatory demands and perform effectively in professional audit and assurance roles.

Dale contributes to the academic community by serving as an ad hoc reviewer for over 50 papers across more than 10 international and Australian accounting journals and received the AFAANZ Outstanding Reviewer Award in 2023. Dale has also dedicated himself to supporting the next generation of researchers. Dale leads a pre-seminar discussion group for HDR students in accounting, aimed at strengthening their critical thinking, analytical capabilities, and academic communication skills, as well as building their confidence in engaging with research seminars. Dale previously served on the Academic Progress Committee and acted as an assessor for Credit for Prior Learning.

Simon Fung is a Professor in the Department of Accounting in Deakin Law School. His research primarily focuses on the quality and use of financial accounting information in capital market decisions, amid the prevalence of information asymmetries in US and international financial markets. His works follow a theme surrounding the concept of the quality of financial disclosures as a mechanism to ensure the protection of capital providers, which is a joint outcome of the financial statement attributes, management incentives, the quality of the information intermediaries (such as auditors and securities analysts), and other corporate governance mechanisms. Simon's papers are published in journals such as The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, Management Science, Journal of International Business Studies, Accounting, Organizations, and Society, Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, European Accounting Review, Journal of Corporate Finance, among others.

Simon's teaching focuses on producing graduates that are professionally competent as well as ready for employment. He believes that proper teaching involves not simply the delivery of updated and technically relevant contents, but more importantly the cultivation of an inquisitive mind as well as the appropriate learning attitude in an upright manner. These qualities enable the student not only to contribute positively to the society and the employing entity but also to live as a respectable member of the society with the ability to learn independently and persistently beyond the curriculum of their professional fields.

He has also contributed to the University through various works and appointments that could raise the presence and reputation of the Department and the University, such as involvements in local and international accreditation exercises and research collaborations with international academic institutions. Internally he serves the Academic Board of Deakin University as a member, and externally he is the co-editor of Journal of Contemporary Accounting and Economics and an editor of Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory.

Gurbinder is an innovative goal-oriented achiever with strong leadership skills. He is a team player in excess of 30 years track record in Financial
Planning (Wealth Accumulation, Wealth Management, Wealth Protection and Wealth Distribution). He has effective networking ability with very good negotiation and client engagement skills.

Gurbinder is excellent at relationship management skills and has extensive overseas working experience and an ability to speak 5 languages. He started his career in a professional services firm which gave him a very good foundation in consulting and was fortunate to have appropriate training in proper client engagement process.

His experience in the industry has exposed him to High Net Worth Individuals, Professional practises, SME's and most importantly the mum and dad client segments. Gurbinder focusses heavily on client relationships and consistently develops strategies and provides solutions to his clients' varying needs and wants. Paying attention to detail helps him clarify ambiguities and he draws down on expert opinions to provide the best outcome for his clients.

He is passionate about the financial services industry and has a sincere desire to help people succeed financially. Gurbinder believes that wealth plays a major role in one's priorities after good health and it must be in good professional hands. This belief led him to his current role at Deakin University and complements his role as a Financial Adviser. He is in the position to share his expereince and knowledge with the students cohort.

Dr. Abdifatah Haji is a lecturer in the Department of Accounting in Deakin Business School. Abdifatah joined the Department of Accounting in 2020 after receiving his PhD from the University of Adelaide.

His research focuses on judgment and decision making using experiments in financial and nonfinancial reporting settings. Specifically, he examines how qualitative features of corporate reporting affect managers, and how individual investors acquire and integrate information disclosed by managers into their investment decisions.

Abdifatah's teaching interests include auditing, AIS and data analytics.
