BIO
Dr Kellie McGlynn
Senior Lecturer in Education
Dr Kellie McGlynn is an internationally recognised education scholar and academic leader in the School of Education at Deakin University. She specialises in applied learning, teacher education, and education reform. A former Course Director of the Master of Applied Learning and Teaching (MALT), Kellie has led major course renewal aligned with national accreditation standards, workforce priorities, and international developments in applied learning.
Kellie’s research is grounded in Cultural-Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) and Change Laboratory methodology and focuses on improving education systems through collaboration between schools, universities, and government. Over the past three years, she has co-designed and led more than $13 million in research and tenders funded by the Victorian Department of Education, including key initiatives such as Teach Today, the VET Employment-Based Pathways Program, and the Master of Applied Learning and Teaching.
Her applied learning and teacher education work extends internationally, with projects and partnerships in India and Indonesia that explore context-responsive curriculum, coaching, and workplace-based learning.
Kellie is also developing a growing program of research on trauma-informed practice and systemic responses to domestic and family violence, examining how education and allied systems can better support safety, agency, and participation of young people, and women. She regularly contributes to public and policy discussions through media appearances, including ABC News and Radio, and publications in The Conversation. Her academic work appears in high-impact journals such as the Australian Journal of Teacher Education, and she is a trusted leader in curriculum design, teacher workforce strategy, and assessment innovation.
Kellie is an AITSL-trained accreditation panellist and mentors both students and early career researchers. Her work exemplifies Deakin’s values of partnership, equity, and impact in education.
