RESEARCH INTERESTS
Research Overview – Dr Kellie McGlynn
Dr Kellie McGlynn’s research focuses on transforming education systems through applied learning, teacher education reform, and collaborative curriculum innovation. Grounded in Cultural-Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) and Change Laboratory methodology, her work investigates systemic contradictions and enables organisational learning across diverse educational contexts.
Kellie’s research interests include:
- Initial Teacher Education (ITE) reform and curriculum co-design
- Applied and vocational learning pathways into teaching
- School–university partnerships for systemic change
- Educational leadership and workforce development
- Interventionist methodologies for educational transformation
- Trauma informed practice
- Gender-based violence
She has led and co-led more than $12 million in competitive and commissioned research projects in partnership with the Victorian Department of Education, schools, and sector organisations. Her work has significantly influenced teacher workforce strategy, curriculum policy, and the design of innovative ITE models.
Key projects include:
- Resilient Classrooms: Educators Leading Change Through Trauma-Informed Practices
- VET Employment-Based Pathways Program: Building a qualified VET teacher pipeline in Victorian schools
- Teach Today: Accelerated, employment-based Initial Teacher Education models addressing teacher shortages
- Hallam Applied Learning Leadership Project: Supporting school-based leadership for senior secondary reform
Through her scholarship, Kellie advances education that is equitable, practice-driven, and responsive to system needs.
