Year 12 is a stressful time for the millions of students every year who sit exams but what if you were told your ATAR ranking is not as important as you might think? While it is used by universities to rank each student based on their yearly performance, researchers at Victoria University have found many got into the course they wanted, without their ATAR even taken into consideration. It has reopened the debate about whether ATAR scores have an important role in Australia's education system or do we need a new assessment tool?
