RESEARCH INTERESTS
He has a strong research interest in the construction and performance of
professional sporting identities and the place of education and training
and has worked closely with the AFL and Cricket Australia to explore the
experiences of elite, and pathway, female athletes within the processes
of professionalisation.
Conceptually this work draws on sociological and educational theory
and is rooted in the application of qualitative methodologies. Across this
work Chris has produced over 80 publications including books, book chapters,
journal articles, research reports and conference papers. This track record
comprises a mix of high quality, sole authored, joint and multi-authored
papers published in highly regarded international and national journals.
Chris maintains an interest in the translation of research into practice and
has enjoyed extensive work with schools and sporting clubs.
He is founder and current Chief Editor of Curriclum Studies in Health and
Physical Education.
Projects
Chris has been a Chief Investigator on numerous research projects spanning
issues associated with:
* the construction and management of a professional identity amongst the sporting elite
* the enculturation practices of pre-adolescent boys,
* the place of school and sport in the socialisation of adolescents
* sporting clubs as cultural drivers in young peoples drinking
.
