ProfessorMark Lawrence

Professor Lawrence's research interests focus on healthy and sustainable food systems, dietary guidelines, ultra-processed foods and ecological nutrition. He and his colleagues have secured over $8 million in category 1 - 4 research grants, including co-leading a large World Health Organization project involving a series of systematic reviews investigating the relationships between dietary patterns and 14 health outcomes. Currently he is applying an ecological nutrition science perspective to develop ‘fit-for-purpose’ evidence synthesis methods and evidence translation metrics to inform food policy and regulation to promote healthy and sustainable diets. 

Professor Lawrence has published 4 books, 16 book chapters and 161 peer-reviewed papers, and has 14,000 citations and an H-index of 54. His latest research book is co-edited with Sharon Friel and titled, 'Healthy and Sustainable Food Systems', Routledge. He has been an invited keynote presenter at >50 international and national conferences. He has received funding to recruit and supervise 3 post-doctoral research fellows as well as supervising 19 PhD (9 as primary supervisor), 9 Masters and 10 Honours students.
