RESEARCH INTERESTS

Mariana Paulino's research focuses on industry-engaged advanced manufacturing, using computational mechanics to understand complex engineering behaviour and support the development of innovative products and manufacturing processes.

Her expertise lies in the development and application of analytical and numerical models that connect material behaviour, manufacturing processes and structural performance. Her work spans metal forming, crashworthiness and related areas of advanced manufacturing, where computational modelling is used alongside experimental validation and engineering design to address practical industry challenges.

A defining characteristic of Mariana’s research is its translational and collaborative nature. She works closely with industry partners, researchers and engineering practitioners to identify technically significant problems, develop robust modelling approaches and translate research findings into improved designs, processes and products.

Her research also contributes to the development of research capability. She creates opportunities for doctoral candidates, early-career researchers and undergraduate students to participate in multidisciplinary and industry-connected projects, gaining experience in computational modelling, experimental validation, professional collaboration and research translation.

Alongside her established work in advanced manufacturing and computational mechanics, Mariana is extending her research into sustainable engineering applications, including resource-efficient manufacturing and technologies associated with the transition to clean energy. Her broader research ambition is to develop enduring collaborations that combine fundamental engineering insight with practical innovation, while strengthening research capability within Deakin and the wider engineering community.
