RESEARCH INTERESTS
Kevin’s research focuses on implementing and sustaining scalable healthcare solutions to problems that affect healthcare experiences, quality of clinical care and healthcare access. He is passionate about achieving positive research impact for health services, consumers and carers affected by healthcare inequity.
In undertaking this research, Kevin is highly committed to also supporting rural and regional health workforces who are critical to achieving equitable healthcare access and delivery in Australia. His research and related activities focus on enhancement of rural and regional health services research capacity, empowerment of clinicians and other health workers to act at their full scope of practice, and increasing role satisfaction and multidisciplinary care.
Currently Kevin leads ConnectED, a large program of work that is co-designing, evaluating and scaling up a model of non-clinical support for people with mental illness who attend rural and regional emergency departments, and their carers. This works aims to facilitate improved healthcare experiences and recovery from illness, and access to appropriate support. He also oversees a range of programs involving embedder researchers and other organisational interventions targeting increased research and evaluation capacity in healthcare, and the sustained implementation or improvement of clinical services at scale. Clinical implementation research covers a wide variety of topics including aged care, acute nursing care, medicines management, diabetes, mental illness, multimorbidity, emergency care, care coordination, and digital health.
